Queenstown Car Repairer Recommendations & WOF Reviews (2025)
When I was in Auckland, there was a place I always took my car to for WOF and car repairs. When I came down to Queenstown, I had my WOF inspection and it failed. I needed to get my car repaired, but I didn't know where to go. For people like me, here are some Queenstown car repair shop recommendations and WOF reviews.
New Zealand Vehicle Inspection (W.O.F) Reviews
To drive a car in New Zealand, you need to have your car inspected once a year and pass a WOF before you can continue to drive it. It's called a Warrant of Fitness.
A year after coming down to Queenstown, it was my turn for WOF, but I didn't know anyone, so a supermarket boss I knew introduced me to VTNZ. The good thing was that it was in Frankton, so it was very close to my house. I thought, "It's dark under the bridge," and it was.

Queenstown VTNZ WOF Review

First of all, if you're going to VTNZ for the first time, and this is good to know, because this was my first time here too, when you get there, there's a line of cars everywhere. Go to the one with the shortest line.
If you come and wait, they may come and ask you why you're here. You can tell them you're here to get your WOF, and when it's your turn, they'll tell you that you can just put your key in and go to the office on the left to pay for your WOF.
You'll see a white car in front of me, and I'll drive up to the front of the big building that's being inspected, and I'll put the keys in the car and come out, and they'll drive the car into the building and start the inspection.

After exiting the vehicle, you will see the office door on your left, as shown in the photo above. Go inside and tell the receptionist that you are here for a WOF vehicle inspection, they will tell you how much it costs and you can pay and wait.
I was told that photography is not allowed inside the VTNZ building, and I was told that
Originally, the WOF inspection isn't that hard to pass - if there's nothing wrong with the car, it'll pass and I'll be on my way home.

However, the results came back as WOF check failed for the following reasons
I understand that the shock absorbers are leaking, but I was shocked to learn that the front wheels are different sizes, as I had a wheel and tire change on one side when I came down to Queenstown due to a tire wheel issue.
I ordered a tire from Frankton Bridgestone and had them replace it, and they didn't even check both tire sizes. Basically, if you're going to change one tire, you're supposed to check the other tire to make sure it's balanced, and I think that's really sloppy.
I regretted not checking it out properly at the time. I went back to Frankton Bridgestone for another tire rotation, and once again, I was on the wrong end of some unkindness.
Recommended Queenstown car repairers
In order to pass WOF in a place where he barely knew anyone, he now needed to find a car repair shop. And that's where he found Ronny Auto service NZis the value.
I started by looking up Queenstown car repair companies, and read the most reviews: out of 96 Google reviews, 5 out of 5. Of course, there weren't any 1-4 reviews, but the 5 star reviews were overwhelming. I figured I should try them anyway, since I didn't know of any in Queenstown.

If you ask me why I recommend Ronny Auto service NZ as a Queenstown car repair shop, it's largely because of the reasons below. First of all, I emailed them and wrote that I had a failed WOF inspection and wanted it repaired, and sent them a picture.
Within 30 minutes of sending the initial email, I received a reply saying that all of the failed parts were repairable and that they would send me a quote. When I received the quote, it was in line with what I expected, so I took the car in for repairs.
For people like me who don't speak English over the phone, I think it's great to send them exactly what they want in an email like this.
In fact, most auto repair shops take a few days to get back to you if you email them, but Ronny Auto service NZ got back to me quickly, which I liked.

As you drive by, you'll see a yellow Ronny Auto service NZ sign on the right hand side of the road - just drive straight into it.

I got there too early, so they weren't open yet, but I got my car fixed anyway and was able to bring it back the next day. I also got my car's basic service checkup that I had been putting off.
Please note that the above estimates are for reference only and may vary depending on the vehicle and its condition.
So I did the WOF pass without having to go to VTNZ, which was free of charge.
Another reason why I recommend Ronny Auto service NZ as my Queenstown car repair shop is that they have a great reputation for
They also polished my car's headlights, so my headlights are much clearer, which was also free.
