How to move from North Island to South Island in New Zealand (Auckland - Queenstown)
I've been living in Auckland, New Zealand's North Island for a long time - in fact, I'm doing well in Auckland, New Zealand's first city - and suddenly I'm moving to Queenstown, South Island. For those of you interested in moving to New Zealand, let's talk about how to move from the North Island to the South Island.
Moving from North Island to South Island in New Zealand
I'm moving from the North Island of New Zealand to the South Island of New Zealand, almost going from pole to pole. I moved to Auckland from South Korea, and now I'm moving to Queenstown, which is said to be the most beautiful city in the South Island.
So if you're thinking about moving from the North Island to the South Island of New Zealand in the future, I'd like to share my experience with you.
1) Moving from North Island to South Island in New Zealand, most importantly the moving center
If you've been in a rental home, you've had to pay for water, electricity, internet, final rent, lawn care, and cleaning (if it's messy).
It's worth noting that this moving center doesn't just travel to faraway places like Queenstown, but also travels back and forth within Auckland, so you can use them if you're moving closer to home.
If you live in New Zealand, you may already know this, but don't assume that just because we're a moving center, we're a Korean moving center. It's important to remember that we only move stuff. Here's what to expect
- Have the bed disassembled in advance (mattress, base)
- Place comforters, etc. in a large plastic bag or box
- Empty drawers and refrigerators of all items (refrigerators have been off for 2-3 days)
- Use a sturdy box and seal neatly with tape
- Located on the front porch, gerage, so most of your stuff can be loaded right into the truck
2) Cost of moving from North Island to South Island in New Zealand
New Zealand is a country where labor for certain services is inherently expensive, so many people like to fix things themselves. It's a DIY country, so there's a lot of do-it-yourself.
In fact, when I was thinking about moving from the North Island to the South Island, moving costs were my biggest concern.
I had to load only the amount that the moving center gave me. If you go over, of course you have to pay extra. So that's all the moving stuff I took with me.
[Moving items taken for moving expenses].
- Bed 1 (mattress, base)
- Big fridge 1 / TV 1 / desk 2 / chair 1
- Large plastic box 3
- Box 10
- Tents, chairs, and carts
3) Delivery time for moving from North Island to South Island in New Zealand
The truck you see on the homepage above came in on moving day. The move started in the morning and was over in less than an hour, not only because we didn't have much to move, but because we had already put everything in the garage. There were a total of 3 employees from Move stuff.
When we came to Queenstown, we had 2 employees. They unloaded all my stuff in about 30 minutes and were gone like the wind. I don't think there was anything wrong with using Move Stuff movers.
The only thing was that the original moving day was postponed a bit. This is not uncommon in New Zealand, but I remember the owner and his staff being very friendly.
4) North Island to South Island moving distance in New Zealand
In the map above, you can see Auckland on the North Island of New Zealand and Queenstown on the South Island of New Zealand. I've estimated the distance between the two cities on Google Maps and the distance if I were driving.
If I were to drive down, it would take me a few days. Anyway, I landed in Queenstown on a leisurely flight with only a few items of luggage.
Finalize
When I moved from the North Island to the South Island of New Zealand, I took the time to research the movers I used, the cost of the move, the delivery time, and even the distance. When I first realized I had to move from Auckland to Queenstown, it was a daunting prospect, but once I chose a moving company, everything fell into place.
You can use a box from a large supermarket such as Parkin Save, or if you want a neat and solid box, you can go to Burning Warehouse, and there are a lot of boxes for heavy and light by size, so you can buy it there.
I hope this is a reference for those who are thinking of moving from the North Island to the South Island of New Zealand. I came into a chat room in Queenstown, and for reference, there are about 200 Koreans living in Queenstown, but I felt a little relieved because I thought there were more than I thought.
I'll be posting a lot about New Zealand in the future, especially Queenstown, so if you're interested in New Zealand and Queenstown, I hope you'll follow my blog often.
