Admission requirements for the University of Auckland's Master of IT online program

The process I'm describing is called Online Master of IT at the University of Auckland, New Zealandis. Take IT classes online and get a master's degree.

There are two requirements for admission to the University of Auckland's Master of IT online course above.

  • A bachelor's degree in any subject (university degree, regardless of major)
  • A GPA/GPE of 4.0 (grades and credits)

Let's get the bottom line out of the way first: you can apply as long as you've graduated from university, regardless of country and major, and have passed the relevant grades (school and English). Of course, you won't know exactly until you submit an application and they review it, but that's my understanding.

Let's go through them one by one.

Answers to questions from the University of Auckland

I was so interested in the above course that I emailed the University of Auckland directly with an inquiry, so if you'd like to do the same, here's my post on how to do it.

1) Do I have to have a degree from a New Zealand university?

I had three main questions: can I apply for the University of Auckland's Master of IT online program if I'm from a non-New Zealand university? Here are the answers to those questions.

Email response from the University of Auckland

I've read that a degree from a university in my country is a requirement for admission, so I guess that solves the degree issue for now. For the record, my major is not in IT.

2) What if I don't have a GPA and do I have to submit English test scores?

The second question was what should I do if I don't have a GPA/GPE because I graduated from a university in Korea, and the third question was that universities usually require a certain score on an English test such as IELTS for admission.

The answer to my second question was that I could replace my grades from Korean universities with English translations.

And for the third and final question, in order to get into the University of Auckland, if you don't have a New Zealand Level 7 or higher degree, you'll need to submit a minimum standardized test score, such as IELTS.

However, if you have completed two years of study in New Zealand in a different course (Culinary, Level 5), like I did, I received a response saying that you don't necessarily need to submit a reference score such as IELTS.

In summary, regardless of your major, as long as you have a Korean university degree, English translatable transcripts, and a recognized English language benchmark score such as IELTS, you can apply for the University of Auckland's online Master of IT program.

Of course, if you're like me and live in New Zealand and have graduated from other courses, you may not want to submit English scores.
