3 Tips for Finding a Job in Queenstown, New Zealand

Queenstown, New Zealand is a smaller city compared to Auckland, so there aren't as many job opportunities as there are in Auckland. Here are some of the top areas in Queenstown where jobs are available, and my top 3 ways to help you find a job in Queenstown, New Zealand.

Queenstown, New Zealand

Queenstown is one of New Zealand's most beautiful cities, but as a tourist destination, it doesn't have many residents. Queenstown has a population of approximately 10,000 peopleand I'm estimating So I'm in that 10,000, and I'm in the Less than 10,000 tourists per day is called.

Hearing the numbers, I think you can realize how many tourists are coming. As a tourist city, jobs in Queenstown, New Zealand are primarily in the hospitality industry.

For starters, there are jobs in hotels, motels, and other accommodations that cater to tourists. Of course, there are also plenty of restaurant jobs for them, and they wouldn't be coming to Queenstown for nothing.

With so many people coming here for entertainment through various activities and leisure, there are a lot of jobs associated with it.

That's not to say that there aren't jobs in other industries, there are other jobs that basically make the city go round, but I just wanted to say that Queenstown is overwhelmingly in the hospitality industry.

1) Which neighborhoods have the most jobs in Queenstown, New Zealand?

[Queenstown Lake district]

When you come to Queenstown, you'll see the most tourists in the Queenstown Lake district area. With a lake in the center, hotels, restaurants, and all kinds of recreational activities for tourists, there's bound to be plenty of jobs.

There are plenty of lodging options, including Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, and Novotel, as well as a wide variety of restaurants along the lake. If you're looking for jobs in Queenstown, New Zealand, this is a great place to focus your search.

[Frankton flats]

If the Queenstown Lake district is a bit of a touristy area, the Frankton flats area is more for the locals who live here, as it has everything you need for everyday life, including a large supermarket, household goods, banks, and more.

New Zealand has a lot of big supermarkets, Parkin Save, Countdown, and K-Mart, Warehouse, and Briscoe's, among others. There are lots of jobs selling goods.

If you're the type of person who prefers to keep to yourself rather than deal with tourists, you may want to look for jobs in the Frankton flats area.

Of course, there are jobs in other areas, but the reason I'm singling these two out is because of the transportation. Queenstown doesn't have much public transportation, so if you don't have a car, it's very inconvenient to get to work.

That being said, Queenstown Lake district and Frankton flats are well served by buses. If you don't have a car and are looking for a job, the above two locations could be good options.
For reference, you can think of the Frankton flats area as being near Queenstown Airport.

The first step to finding a job in Queenstown, New Zealand is to use the Seek sitesIn the field labeled What, you can type in a specific job title and start searching immediately. However, I prefer to search by occupation and region.

Or set the Where region to Queenstown, and then flip through the occupations in the second column, selecting them one by one. You'll notice that there are more Hospitality occupations than any other.

Once you've selected the Hospitality occupation, you'll be able to drill down into each of the jobs. I've selected Chef and searched for it. You can see what Chef positions are available, what restaurants and hotels are hiring, and what the approximate annual or hourly salary is.

I've been looking for a job for a few days now, and the first thing employers ask is whether I can legally work in New Zealand. For example, I was asked if I was a New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or work visa holder.

The other thing that stood out to me was the phrase "We don't do green card applications". I guess we get a lot of inquiries about permanent residency support because we have a lot of people working on work visas.

2) Join the Queenstown Jobs Facebook group

The second tip for finding jobs in Queenstown, New Zealand is to use the Utilize the Queenstown Jobs Facebook groupto join. The Facebook group above is Queenstown Jobs NZ. Once you've joined, scroll through and you'll come across jobs that employers are currently hiring for.

For example, in the photo to the right, we're looking for someone to do housekeeping on a full-time, part-time, or casual basis. We usually list a lot of hourly and annual salaries because that's the most important thing to get people's attention.

The most primitive method, but the one that will have the most impact on your employer or manager.. If you walk around Queenstown trying to find a job, you'll still see a lot of advertisements for staffing on windows.

In this case, you can just walk in with your CV and ask. Unlike the SEEK site or Facebook group method, the advantage is that the people who are hiring and the people who are looking for work meet face-to-face.

There are a lot of variables here - a lot of unexpected things that can happen. The nature of jobs in Queenstown is that the average tenure of people working is not very long. That means that there can be a lot of instances where I need a job at the last minute, and there's someone there who's moving out.

I think it's a good way to go because even if you don't get a job right away, there's a chance that you'll get one in the future. I think you'll have good results if you focus on the Queenstown Lake district, Frankton flats area in particular.

It's basically an information paper covering the week's Queenstown news, but we also advertise jobs in the back with the above job postings. If you see a job that catches your eye, you can email or call them.

I didn't know about this, but I was bored during my break and looked at this magazine and saw that there were job postings. In Korea, you can think of it as an old life information magazine.

If you say you don't have time to look for a job and you're not good at that, you can also use the Workforce Office in Queenstown. You can go there and register and they will match you with jobs that are suitable for you. You can think of it as a labor office in Korea.

Of course, in exchange for less work on your part, you'll have to account for the fees taken by the labor office. The photo above shows a OneStaffis a Queenstown workforce office located on the second floor of the SkyCity building in central Queenstown.

Finalize

I focused on the SEEK site at first. I applied for every job I was interested in or thought I could do well at, and if I realized I wasn't a good fit, it was nice to be able to confirm through the SEEK site or email that they weren't going to proceed.

If you're looking for jobs in Queenstown, New Zealand, you can use SEEK to search for jobs, or you can apply in person, drop off your CV and you'll hear from them in a few days.

And transportation is very important when you're looking for a job, so make sure you know that in advance. I think the last buses were at 10:00, 10:30 at night, except for the No. 1 bus, so it's good to remember that.
