Review of a Korean restaurant in Auckland, New Zealand (Nolbune) for 3 days in a row

Auckland, New Zealand actually has a lot of Korean restaurants. This time, I stayed in Auckland for a few days, so I went looking for a Korean restaurant. I found Nolbune in downtown Auckland. It was so delicious that I went there for three days in a row. Let's start with my review of Korean restaurants in Auckland, New Zealand.

Review of Nolbune, a Korean restaurant in Auckland, New Zealand

If I ever go to Auckland again, Nol Bu ne will definitely be on my list.

When I went to Auckland, New Zealand in 2016, I didn't know there would be so many Korean restaurants, but now it seems like there are not only Korean restaurants, but also chicken restaurants serving Korean chicken.

Today we'll be using Let's talk about Nolbune, a Korean restaurant located in downtown Auckland, New Zealand.. Unbeknownst to me, it's actually a pretty old restaurant in downtown Oakland.

Nolbune locations

Nolbune, a Korean restaurant in Auckland, New Zealand, is located right across the street from the Auckland Library. It's located right next door to the formerly famous No. 1 pancake house.

I didn't know about them because they were on the second floor, but now they're on the first floor, right on the way to the library.

Actually, I wasn't feeling very well while I was in Auckland, and since I was sick, I was craving Korean food even more. Then I found Nolbune's Korean restaurant, which is now on the ground floor, so you'll be able to find it easily.

1) Bone Haejangguk

Nolbune, a Korean restaurant in Auckland, New ZealandThe first food I ate at the restaurant was bone broth soup. I remember the price was around $26, and it came with 6 basic side dishes.

There were two big pieces of bone, with a lot of meat on them, not too spicy, just right. The price seemed right too, as anything is about $3-4 more expensive in Queenstown than in Auckland.

After I finished eating the bones, I rolled up the rice and ate it, and it was delicious. I felt like my sickness was gone.

In Korea, bone broth soup is the most popular food the next day for those who have had too much to drink the night before. It's a great lunch for those who have had too much to drink the day before.

2) Tonkatsu

The day after I had the bone haejangguk, I went to Nolbune for lunch again. There were plenty of Korean restaurants in downtown Auckland, New Zealand, but I was still in a good mood from the previous day.

This time, we ordered tonkatsu. Tonkatsu is thinly sliced pork, breaded and deep-fried.

The pork cutlet also came with soup, and I enjoyed the soup. The pork was good, but the sauce wasn't as sweet as I would have liked. In Korea, pork sauces are very sweet.

Once again, all 6 basic side dishes were served, and the egg roll and muk were different from the previous day's side dishes. I think the price was around $26, similar to the bone haejangguk.

3) Stir-frying Jeyuk

The next day, for lunch, I ordered my favorite dish, jeyukbokki, which is a Korean dish. Think of jeyukbokkeum as a slightly spicy pork dish that is a Korean favorite.

The jeyukbokkeum came in a large portion, and the best part was the beef seaweed soup. It's been a while since I've had seaweed soup, and it was really good. It went well with the beef stir-fry.

The basic side dishes were the same as the day before, with 6 different types, and all of them were delicious to my taste. There was an elderly couple in the kitchen, and they seemed to be very skilled at cooking.

4) Tips for Ordering Nolbu's Food

My top tip from my review of a Korean restaurant in Auckland, New Zealand is to order a set meal rather than the special lunch menu whenever possible.

The Special Lunch Menu is a donburi-like menu that's cheap and easy to eat. I think the price was around $17, which is really cheap, isn't it?

However, if you want to enjoy Korean food properly, I would definitely recommend a set meal like I did. To really enjoy Korean food, you need to order a main dish, soup, rice, and basic side dishes to get the most out of your meal.

There is a price difference between the prix fixe and specialty lunch menus, but in my opinion, it's worth it.

I don't even know if I would think so, as the overall food prices are cheaper at Nolbune's in downtown Auckland compared to the Korean restaurant in Queenstown where I live.

Finalize

Today, I wrote about Nolbune as a review of a Korean restaurant in Auckland, New Zealand. I think the price of a set meal was around $24~27.

I guess it's not a bad price point to enjoy delicious Korean food in Auckland, New Zealand, which is known for its high cost of living. The people working there were very friendly, and I was impressed that they had Korean recipe books available for foreigners to look at in order to promote Korean food.

Please note that the difference between the Nolbune webpage linked above and the price and menu pictures I mentioned may be due to webpage updates, etc.
